Volunteers Bios

Thomas Chang

Thomas Chang has been in the US since 1995. While working on his Master's thesis in Hospitality Management Department at Purdue University, he developed a great interest in the fields of finance and statistics, and decided to pursue an actuarial career. He passed the final actuarial exam in 2002,and is taking CFA Level III exam.

Thomas has been working for life insurance companies since 1998 in several different areas: rates and values, corporate oversight, financial modeling and reporting, and international insurance. He is currently living in Manhattan where he enjoys independent films, exotic restaurants, experimental theater, and international travel.

 

Miao Chen

Miao came from China. She went to college at Beijing University and received her master's degree in Actuarial Science from Boston University. She currently works as a life product actuary and had worked in various areas of life insurance such as experience studies and financial reporting. She enjoys volunteering at CAC and it has been an exciting and rewarding experience for her. She enjoys working with other volunteers and has become good friends with many of them. Her dream is to make CAC a better and better organization through the hard work of all the volunteers.

 

Rioma Kam

Rioma Kam, FSA, has more than 10 years of experience in three of the largest insurance companies in the world, developing his expertise in risk management. He is also keen on international business, competitive strategy, and operational issues. He is currently an actuary at AIG.

Among his previous projects outside of work, Rioma served as an early-stage advisor to CICC in Beijing on China Life's IPO and as a team leader in a couple of business plan competitions.

Rioma supports human development and poverty alleviation. Volunteerism had brought him to communities in Belgium, Poland, Finland, and China. He is currently contemplating the feasibility of stimulating socioeconomic development in rural China through a combination of microfinance and assistance programs. He is also a member of the Microfinance Club of New York and the Chinese Finance Association.

Rioma is an alumnus of Columbia University and New York University.

Jennifer Lin

Jennifer Lin came from Taipei in 1989 and currently lives in New York City. She has experience in valuation, financial reporting, international and risk management areas. Prior moving to NYC, Jennifer also lived in San Francisco, Iowa City, and Columbus (Ohio). Jennifer started participating CAC's activities in 2002 and has been actively involved since then. She enjoys working with other volunteers to grow CAC. During Jennifer's spare time, she enjoys movies, music, travel, and go fishing, her new found hobby.

 

Gene Wang

 

Huayang Wang

Huayang Wang is the web and database administrator. He came from Beijing and now lives in New Jersey. He is working in ALM area in MetLife. During his spare time, he likes outdoor sport, e.g. soccer, tennis and etc.

Carrie Yang

Carrie Yang helps to keep and update the financial records for the organization. She came from Shanghai, studied finance/accounting and having worked for several life insurance companies, she is currently working at Guardian. She likes to read and travel.

Nian-Chih Young

Nian-Chih Yang fashions himself as the unofficial recorder of the Chinese Actuarial Club's annual meeting, whenever the Society of Actuaries' Annual Meeting is held. That is if he can make it to the meeting.

Michael Zhang

An aspiring actuary, currently working as a software engineer, Michael Zhang holds a degree in mathematical physics.

In CAC, he helps to set up the forum for the CAC website and organize some of the club activities. He is happy that his interactions with members of CAC have further convinced him of his decision.

Whenever he has some free time, Michael studies for SOA exams. For relaxation, he likes to play sports and visit museums and tango spots in the New York City. He also volunteers his time to teach new immigrants English and help them settle into their lives in the new land.
